More reports suggest Beijing is severely underreporting its COVID-19 death toll.

China announced that there have been nearly 80,000 deaths in hospitals across the country since virus restrictions measures were lifted on Dec. 8.

Officials also stated the country’s death toll reached its peak of about 4,300 at the start of January.

But experts are questioning these figures and accounts from residents contradict these numbers, too.
