A 17-year-old girl who was hit by a driver that fled the scene in Severn, Maryland, while walking home last weekend has died.

The heartbroken family of Kiersten Emily Wengert-Walko announced the news on social media. Kiersten died on Wednesday, Nov. 1, ABC2News reported.

The teenager was rushed to shock trauma with “critical life-threatening injuries,” after the hit and run accident on Sunday morning, Oct. 29. She was walking with a group of friends along the 7800 block of WB&A Road after leaving a house party, Anne Arundel County Police said.

The driver fled the scene and remained at large, as of writing on Thursday. Police believe the car was speeding and leaving the same party Kiersten had attended. Investigators are offering a $2,000 reward in the case.

A family spokesman, Stephanie Shade, said they are “heartbroken” over Kiersten at 3:15 pm, “On behalf of Kiersten’s family, we would like to thank everyone for their love, concern, and prayers.”

GoFundMe page set up for Kiersten has now raised over $10,250 out of the $20,000 goal and the donations will help with funeral arrangements.

According to the page, Kiersyen was in critical condition on life support, before she died.

Police said the only details they had on the vehicle was that it was “silver with broken headlight assembly (clear portion) and windshield damage.” The vehicle should also have tinted windows.

Officers first responded to a call of a pedestrian being hit on Oct. 28 at approximately 2:10 a.m. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who may have any information about the incident or a possible vehicle is asked to call 410-222-8573 or 8082.

As more people found out about Kiersten they left messages of condolence on the teenager’s Facebook page.

“Rip… Too young to have gone,” one person commented.

She was beautiful. So sorry she was taken away so suddenly,” another commented.
