A possibly shackled woman wearing just a T-shirt, who appears to be in a state of panic, prompted a Texas sheriff’s department to launch a search for her.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said on Aug. 26 that it is “investigating the suspicious incident that occurred in Montgomery,” urging people to share the post to help law enforcement.

But, according to a Fox8 report on Aug. 28, the sheriff’s office asked commenters to “quit speculating on the woman” after the video was uploaded on Facebook.

“If you have any information regarding this or if you know the woman or if you are the woman in the pictures please contact us,” the office wrote on Facebook. The video had more than 60,000 views as of Aug. 28.

According to Fox News, the woman rang a doorbell at a Sunrise Ranch subdivision home at around 3:20 a.m. on Aug. 24. The homeowner woke up, but the woman was gone when the person answered.

The resident then reviewed security footage and gave it to police. “It was kind of scary because this girl looked like she was just in a shirt. She looked like she had wrist restraints on her wrist and she was barefoot. You can see her with a worry on her face looking around,” the resident told Click2Houston.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Spencer said that officials have interviewed several suspects in the area. He couldn’t confirm if the woman had shackles or handcuffs around her wrists, Fox News reported.

A number of locals have sent missing person flyers saying the woman in the video is missing from their area, according to the Fox8 report, adding that the office is reviewing the flyers.

The office told KHOU that the woman doesn’t appear to correspond to any missing person reports.

“There’s still a lot to be done,” he said.

Those with information about the case or woman can call the sheriff’s office at 936-760-5800 and refer to case No. 18A243347.

What Should Residents Do in a Similar Situation?

“Answer the door but call from the other side of the door don’t actually open the door. Unfortunately, times have changed from yesterday so you have to be very careful we have had a lot of home invasions,” Spencer told Click2Houston.

He said that if the person needs someone to help, offer to call 911.

Near Toronto, Canada, a similar situation unfolded on Aug. 23 when a woman could be seen ringing a doorbell at 2:50 a.m. Then, a man in a hoodie with short hair appears and demands that she leave with him. Police said that he may be armed with a handgun.

“The door was not answered, but video surveillance shows an unknown male suspect, armed with what appears to be a handgun, exiting a vehicle parked out front on the roadway. The suspect had an altercation with the victim on the front porch of the residence and dragged her back to his vehicle by her hair and drove away. The male can be heard in the video threatening to kill the victim,” said police in a statement.
