US Chinese Officials Hold Talks in Beijing

Senior U.S. diplomats meeting their Chinese counterparts on Monday. The U.S. state department released a statement, saying the two sides talked about bilateral relations, Taiwan issues, and channels of communication.

One of the diplomats sent to China is Daniel Kritenbrink, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. The other is Sarah Beran, National Security Council Senior Director for China and Taiwan Affairs.

The meeting comes amid rising tensions between the two superpowers. Right before the U.S. diplomats landed in China, a Chinese warship cut in front of a U-S missile destroyer near Taiwan—coming in as close as a hundred and 50 yards.

Days earlier, a Chinese jet cut in front of the nose of a U.S. jet. The American aircraft was shaking from turbulence.
