U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy while introducing him at the National Defense University in Washington on Monday, saying America’s support of his country’s fight against Russia is “one of the great causes of our time.”
Mr. Zelenskyy was addressing U.S. military officers there as part of a last-minute push to convince Congress to provide more money for weapons before funding runs out. Mr. Austin told attendees that U.S. support for the former Soviet Republic is “unshakable.”
President Joe Biden has asked Congress for $61.4 billion for wartime funding for Ukraine as part of a $110 billion package, which also includes funding for Israel and other national security priorities.
