White House Spokesman Adm. John Kirby said on Friday that the United States has ceased funding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which was working in Gaza, amid an investigation into the group’s alleged hiring of Hamas members who are accused of having taken part in the Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
The agency’s leadership has said that those in question have been terminated, and that an investigation is in progress. The United States is the largest nation-donor to the U.N.- backed relief organization.
