President Donald Trump is set to ban China-based apps TikTok and WeChat over the weekend because of national security concerns. The ban is the latest in the Trump administration’s efforts to counter Beijing’s actions to undermine U.S. institutions and public security.

The U.S. Department of Commerce has said that TikTok and WeChat collect large amounts of data which may end up in the hands of the Chinese regime because the apps are part of China’s civil military fusion and must cooperate with the Chinese Communist Party’s intelligence service.
