US University Closes CCP-Backed Confucius Institute

A U.S. university cutting ties with a China-linked Chinese military-linked institute on its campus.

Following an investigation by the House China Select Committee over a $17 million Pentagon grant to the school’s advanced hypersonic research.

The panel’s chairman, Mike Gallagher, first sent a letter to Alfred University’s president earlier this month.

Questioning how Alfred continues to get Pentagon funding while it harbors a Confucius Institute.

Confucius Institutes are funded by Beijing and touted as cultural exchanges, but they’re known to push Chinese state propaganda to project “soft power” in the U.S.

They’re also central to helping the regime steal American technology and research. The FBI says China steals up to $600 billion worth of U.S. intellectual property every year.

In a letter to Gallagher, a lawyer for Alfred University said the school will close its Confucius Institute this month.

Gallagher thanked Alfred for its decision in a Thursday statement to Fox News.

The closure comes as part of a wider push against Confucius Institutes across America.

Washington’s recent National Defense Authorization Act disqualified schools from Pentagon grants if they operate Confucius Institutes on campus.

That rule takes effect in October.
