The USS Carl Vinson strike group is heading toward the Korean Peninsula. Before then, it completed a shortened training session in Australia.

The U.S. military is sending the aircraft carrier to the western Pacific “as a prudent measure.”

The U.S. is trying to pressure North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.

Vice President Mike Pence said this week that the era of “strategic patience” with North Korea is over.

The USS Carl Vinson has been making its way from Singapore to the Sea of Japan, making stops in Asia along the way.

The Navy said the carrier will arrive in the Korean region next week.
