Uyghur people in exile have often been cut off from contacting loved ones in their homeland. Over the weekend, Uyghur music expressing longing—but also hope and joy—filled the air at an evening concert in London. It comes as a third hearing of the Uyghur Tribunal took place in the capital. The tribunal will give a decision next month on whether the Chinese Communist Party has committed genocide and crimes against humanity against Uyghur, Kazakh, and other Turkic Muslim groups. Singer and human rights activist Rahima Mahmut spoke with NTD about having the freedom to sing.
