Once again police fought protesters on the streets of Caracas, Venezuela.
This is the latest in a long string of violent confrontations. Police and anti-government demonstrators have clashed almost daily since March. So at least 37 people have been killed.
Many Venezuelans reject President Nicolás Maduro. He has taken over Congress, but was forced to withdraw. Now Maduro has called a People’s Assembly to rewrite the constitution. He knows he can control a People’s Assembly, while he cannot control Congress.
The country, once a wealthy oil-exporting nation, is now bankrupt and people are starving.
There is no clear path to a resolution.
Meanwhile Caracas residents are getting used to the smell of tear gas.
