Venezuelan opposition leader Henrique Capriles ran into trouble on his way to the United Nations. Protests continued as he decided to return to Caracas.
Opposition lawmaker Tomas Guanipa spoke in front of protesters, “In this moment, when Henrique Capriles has been held, and robbed of his passport, simply because he was going to meet with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights after thousands of people in Venezuela have been attacked and injured, a product of the government’s repression; after 44 people lost their lives, the logical thing is for Venezuelans of good heart to create an alert, that we announce to the entire world what’s happening. That meeting with the High Commission (for Human Rights) of the United Nations was prevented because (Venezuelan President) Nicolás Maduro is really scared of the truth that we have to tell the world.”
Venezuelan citizens are protesting President Nicolás Maduro, because many believe he is trying to create a dictatorship and is destroying the economy.
Almost two months of protests have resulted in over 40 deaths.
