Venezuelans planned to march peacefully through the capital, Caracas, on May 26.

Dubbed the “March of the Liberators,” the procession intended to honor fallen demonstrators.

At least 55 people have been killed protesting the rule of President Nicolás Maduro.

For seven weeks the city streets have been battlegrounds.

This day was no different.

Police met the marchers with tear gas and water cannons mounted on tanks.

Nothing was resolved, nothing improved. Nothing changed.

Caracas is becoming a city of death and sorrow.
