Venezuelans mourn paramedic killed while helping protest victims

Paul Moreno was 24, a medical student, and a member of the Green Cross first-aid response team.

He saw his country, Venezuela, convulsed by violent protest, and felt he had to use his knowledge to help people overcome by tear gas.

Moreno was run over twice while assisting fallen demonstrators on May 18.

Yesterday, during the march and after it finished, Paul was attending to the people, the ones who needed his help, to give them first aid and, at that moment, he was run over—supposedly by a white Toyota pickup truck that ran him over twice,” said Sergio Osorio, dean of the School of Medicine where Moreno studied.

“Of course, he lost his life because of this illegality,” Osorio said.
