Vice President Pence honors Project Hero Memorial Day Bike Ride participants

Vice President Mike Pence honored the participants of annual Project Hero Memorial Day Bike Ride at the Naval Observatory on May 29.

Greeting more than 200 bike riders, Pence thanked them for their service in the military and law enforcement.

“This is a day we remember those who served and did not come home. And to be able to welcome you heroes here, all of you who have worn the uniform of the United States and many of whom have worn the uniform of law enforcement and have borne in your own bodies, in your own minds, the burdens that come with that service, to be able to welcome you here on this most hallowed of days is profoundly humbling to Karen and I. So I say to each one of you, thank you for your service, you make this place better for you being here today and you honor us all,” said the vice president.

“The president just returned from an extraordinary trip in Europe where he met with world leaders but he punctuated that trip meeting with troops in Italy. He said it now falls to us, in his words, to prove worthy of their sacrifice. And that’s our ongoing challenge as Americans, isn’t it. Is to be as good as those we remember particularly on this day,” he added.

The riders will take off from Washington, D.C., and will arrive at Virginia Beach, Virginia on Friday.

Project Hero is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping veterans and first responders affected by PTSD and other injuries get rehabilitated and recover, and gain some resilience in their daily lives.
