A GoPro camera video shows the moment a black Volvo hits a cyclist in a hit-and-run accident on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Tennessee.
Marshall Grant Neely III of Franklin, Tenn., was arrested and charged for the Saturday incident, police told ABC News. The charges include reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to immediately notify of an accident, and failure to render aid.
He was sent to the Williamson County Detention Center. Police said that more charges could be forthcoming. He was released on $11,500 bond and faces a July 20 court date.
The biker, Tyler Noe, was injured—officials described them as “serious but non-life threatening,” ABC reported.
“It was Tyler’s first day to ride a bike since he was a kid,” fellow cyclist Greg Goodman told The Tennessean. “He looks awful, but he is going to be OK.”
Goodman, who was wearing a GoPro-equipped helmet, capturing the accident.
“On the Natchez Trace, you’re allowed to ride in the lane,” Goodman told The Tennessean. “There’s signage we are allowed to ride in the lane, not just the shoulder.”
Neely is the former dean of students at University School of Nashville, the school told WZTV. He’s been put on a leave of absence as the school investigates, according to a school statement.
“Marshall Neely served as dean of students at University School of Nashville before transitioning to a part-time role this summer,” the school told ABC. “He also is parent of two alumni. As of today, USN has placed Mr. Neely on leave of absence while we investigate the circumstances.”
