Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) was approached by protesters on Oct. 4, who were accosting him for supporting Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
“Why aren’t you brave enough to talk to us and exchange with us?” one of the protesters yelled at Hatch as he went inside an elevator on Capitol Hill.
Hatch then waved them off.
“Don’t you wave your hand at me!” one outraged protester screamed at him.
“When you grow up I’ll be glad to,” Hatch responded, triggering a torrent of insults and screaming from the protesters.
“[Expletive] old piece of [expletive]!” one woman yelled. “You dismiss women! How dare you dismiss women!” another yelled.
A Secret Service agent then warned the protesters that they would be arrested if they obstructed the elevator. A number of protesters in D.C. were escorted off the premises of Capitol Hill and elsewhere in plastic handcuffs.
The Senate will vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation on Oct. 5.
President Donald Trump on Oct. 5 weighed in on the protests in Washington D.C. and Capitol Hill.
“The very rude elevator screamers are paid professionals only looking to make Senators look bad. Don’t fall for it! Also, look at all of the professionally made identical signs. Paid for by Soros and others. These are not signs made in the basement from love! #Troublemakers,” he wrote. He’s referring to left-wing billionaire George Soros, who has long been accused of election meddling and funding protests around the world.
