Comedian Steve Brown was attacked by a drunken heckler during a set on Sunday, Jan.21, leaving him shaken and calling for more security.

“First off let me start by saying Thanks for the calls and messages from friends, fans and my family. With that being said, let me say this. This unprovoked attacked that happened to me tonight is a reminder of why these comedy clubs should have well equipped PROFESSIONAL security to protect us entertainers who bring their club so much money,” Brown said on Instagram following the attack.

“I thank God for looking out for me and giving my old ass the ability to Bob and weave because this could have ended in [sic] horrible way.”

Brown was performing in Columbia, South Carolina, when the incident took place.

The angry heckler stormed the stage and attempted to hit Brown with a microphone stand and stool. Brown dodged the attempted attack before Comedy House security intervened, reported TMZ.

The outlet said that the suspect is named Marvin and that four people in the club, aside from Brown, who received a cut, were injured in the attack and want to press charges.

“I noticed he had like this really crazy look on his face, like he was in deep thought or like he was just mad about something,” Brown told WLTX.

“So I asked him what was wrong, I said, ‘My man you ok?’ and he just started mumbling and going crazy and I just said dude it’s not that serious you cool?”

He added, “I was trying to protect myself and not try to harm him. It was pretty much a defensive fighting technique where I was just going to let him wear himself out and try to stay away from him.”

One of the victims was a security guard who said Marvin punched him before bolting into a car.

Besides causing injuries the suspect allegedly caused $400 in damages. The suspect has not been arrested as yet, although the Richland County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.

Management at the Comedy House declined to comment when reached by The State.

Tumika LaSha captured the stunning scene on video and shared it on Facebook. “Boy went H.A.M at the Comedy House! All I know is The comedian Steve Brown asked him what was his problem?” she wrote.

Less than 24 hours later, the video had 1.2 million views and 17,000 shares.

“Don’t sit your dumb [expletive] near the stage at a comedy show … nobody’s safe,” said one user.

“Overgrown child,” added another.
