The United Nations on April 24 said a video in the hands of the Democratic Republic of Congo government seems to show the murder of two U.N. workers.

Michael Sharp and Zeida Catalan disappeared in March. They were working in a dangerous part of the Congo where insurgents were increasingly active. The video shows the pair walking with people wearing the signature red headbands of the local Kamuina Nsapu militia.

The pair are shot, and the young lady is beheaded.

“Yes, we have seen the video and our colleagues in the DRC who knew Michael Sharp and Zeida Catalan personally have viewed this video and we are utterly horrified at what appears to be a video of the killing, he brutal killing of Mr. Sharp and Miss Catalan,” said United Nations Human Rights spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani.

The government has not said how it got the video.

The Congo has drawn the attention of the U.N. and the rest of the world.

Recently scores of mass graves were uncovered.

Many officials close to the president are under sanction for brutality.

President Joseph Kabila’s mandate has expired, but he refuses to leave office.
