Several videos show Donald Trump responding to the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City.
Trump, who owns properties and has a home in New York City, gave several TV interviews near ground zero.
A German reporter asked him a question about whether he had interests in Lower Manhattan.
“I just went to what they call ground zero. I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said. “The devastation, the human life that’s been just wasted for no reason whatsoever. It’s a terrible scene.”
“New Yorkers,” he added, “are very strong and very resilient, and they’ll rebuild very quickly.”
The United States, he said at the time, needed to “respond quickly and effectively” to deal with the perpetrators of the attack.
“There is no other choice,” he said, adding that New York needs to rebuild in a way that’s “just as majestic as the World Trade Center.”
Trump said that he had “a lot of men down here right now” to deal with the recovery efforts, adding that “they’re very brave and they’re amazing.”
On Monday Trump commemorated 9/11 at the Pentagon and the White House alongside first lady Melania Trump. They observed a moment of silence for the nearly 3,000 people who died in the terrorist attacks—when hijackers flew planes into the World Trade Center buildings, the Pentagon, and into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
