Six dogs were locked up in an outdoor cage in Leland, North Carolina, during Hurricane Florence. The water level was rising rapidly so some started to stand on their hind legs, and some were howling and whimpering, hopelessly worrying for their lives.

Their owners were forced to evacuate but might have forgotten about them. They might have all drown if no one had found them in time.

Fortunately, some volunteer rescuers heard them and rushed to their aid. Ryan Nicholas of Longview, Texas, approached the kennel, according to Daily Mail.

He wore a swim vest that looks like a U.S. flag, walked toward the dogs while the water was already above knee level, and successfully released all six dogs in time and they all happily hopped or swam away with no physical harm. They were actually quite happy running together toward a house, playing with each other, and one began to eat dog food.

Another dog in South Lumberton, North Carolina was rescued by two men who drove from Maine, according to Huff Post.

The dog was alone and soaked on a porch with no license on her neck. After the rescue, she was so happy that she keeps wagging her tail and licking her rescuers.

In Kinston, North Carolina, April Casey and her family saved 18 dogs from the tops of pens, in kennels beneath a flooded staircase, using a jet ski and some jon boats on loan from others according to local newspaper Charlotte Observer. These dogs have been reunited with their owners.
