Voter turnout for the 2017 French election tops 2012

Voter turnout for France’s presidential election is up.

Early numbers show that 28.54 percent of the population has voted so far.

That compares to 28.29 percent in 2012 at the same hour.

However, in 2007 turnout was over 31 percent by this time.

Voter turnout is seen by some as the key to the election.

This election is seen as pivotal for the European Union.

If an anti-EU candidate wins, the EU would be in peril.
