A 6-year-old boy who went missing in Lynwood, Washington, on Monday was found just a day later.
The body of Dayvid Pakko was found in a dumpster on Tuesday morning, Oct. 17, KING-TV, an NBC affiliate reported. A relative of the boy is currently in custody.
Pakko went missing from his apartment complex located in the 15700 block of 44th Avenue West on Monday afternoon.
Shari Ireton, the sheriff’s office spokeswoman said that Pakko stayed from school on Monday because he was feeling sick. His mother had left the home and was at work, KING-TV reported.
Deputies found the body before 2 a.m. in a dumpster just around the corner from the front door of his apartment.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said in an Oct. 17 Facebook post that it was waiting for the county medical examiner to provide the cause and manner of death.
“Detectives are processing the crime scene and are expected to be working for several hours,” the office wrote. “Cause and manner of death, as well as identification, are pending from the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.”
The department also said “There is evidence that the boy was the victim of homicide” and that detectives are processing the crime scene.
Deputies said that a 19-year-old man who is a relative of Pakko is in custody and considered a suspect. A representative said detectives are still investigating and have yet to determine a probable cause before recommending arrest charges.
People on Facebook offered their condolences, as news of the death spread throughout the online community.
Ireton told KING-TV that it wasn’t immediately clear if the man in custody was watching Pakko before his Monday disappearance.
According to Ireton, there are no other suspects.
In an earlier Facebook post on Monday from the sheriff’s office, they mentioned that he was mildly autistic and was last seen around his home on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
According to KING-TV, over 100 volunteers had searched throughout the night for Pakko.
