Miss District of Columbia and Miss New Jersey were finalist and runner-up for the Miss USA crown.
Kara McCullough was stunned when she was announced the winner. It’s the second year a District of Columbia contestant has won.
McCullough is a 25-year-old scientist. She will next go on to compete for the Miss Universe title, facing contestants from across the world.
