The Taipei 101, Taiwan’s tallest skyscraper, had a spectacular fireworks display on the last day of 2016.

The iconic building standing in Taipei, capital of Taiwan, is 508 meters tall, and the fireworks lasted for nearly four minutes after thousands of people counted down to midnight.

“Lighten up Taiwan,” the theme of this year’s show, is borrowed from President Tsai Ing-wen’s election campaign. Tsai took office in May this year.

This was the 13th time that Taipei 101 had hosted the city’s official New Year’s fireworks show.
