Japan is one of the countries with the lowest crime rate in the world. Street crime is rarely heard of and the murder rate is extremely low with 0.4 homicides in 100,000 people. Japan is also known for having strict gun-control laws.
Despite the safety in the country, a company introduced a net gun and liquid launcher weapon to help women fights off muggers. A commercial video shows its effectiveness.
The video started off with a man dressed as a ninja who was about to charge at a woman when she took out the giant flashlight-looking net gun. She flips up the safety cover and pulls the trigger. Out springs a large net that wraps the man up and trips him.
As an added feature, the net can be fastened to a gate or fence, preventing the assailant from following the victim or escaping before police arrive.
The smaller weapon is a launcher that sprays a gel attacking the criminal’s eyes and skin. Another gel glows in the dark and can be used to mark the attacker if he or she flees.
