The handpan, an instrument you can play everywhere

At first glance this almost looks like an upside-down wok, or other cooking pot, but this intriguing musical instrument produces beautiful music.

These pans are the first musical instruments for kids in several Asian countries. They crawl around their busy mothers in the kitchen, playing on the pans available to them. The metal sounds could be sharp and unpleasant as kids knocking on them with their hands or some tools like ladles or spoons.

It’s unexpected that this pan-like musical instrument can produce such pleasant sound. This unique instrument, Handpan, also called Hang or Hang drum, is a newer musical instrument invented by a company in Switzerland in 2001.

You can play this pan-like musical instrument anywhere, on a stool outside, coffee table at home, or simply on your lap. Either way what you will get is a beautifully haunting melody to your design.
