‘What’s the Crime?’–Trump Defense Team’s FEC Witness to Show Case ‘Built on a House of Cards’: Analyst

In former President Donald Trump’s New York trial, it remains unclear whether the defense will call any witnesses or present any evidence. However, according to Paul Kamenar, the lead counsel at the National Legal and Policy Center, the defense may call a witness connected to the Federal Elections Commission (FEC), who is likely to undercut the prosecution’s theory that President Trump falsified business records in furtherance of a coverup scheme.

“The question is: ‘What’s the crime?'” asked Mr. Kamenar. “It’s not a crime for Donald Trump to give unlimited amounts of money to his own campaign.”

“This expert will show that this whole case is basically built on a house of cards,” he said, in reference to the FEC witness.
