Vice President JD Vance’s brother, Cory Bowman, is running for mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio. He’ll face incumbent Aftab Pureval in the city’s general election on Nov. 4.

Cincinnati has had a democratic mayor for the last 50 years. But Bowman, a registered Republican, is hopeful he can overcome the odds.

“We are running this on city issues, and when you look at what's facing our city right now: we are currently seeing a mismanagement of funds from the budget, we are seeing rising crime rates, and we are seeing a decaying infrastructure. Our roads are covered in potholes and cracks. I don't really see that as political statements. I think that these issues relate to every single person,” Bowman told NTD’s Paul Greaney.

Bowman is a Cincinnati coffee shop owner and pastor. He founded the River Church with his wife, Jordan, in 2020. They serve as head pastors. The mayoral hopeful says being able to connect with people in his community, through his work, every day, gives him gives him an edge in the race.

“Many people that jump in a race like this, they would only start doing these events or only start being a part of the community just to get votes. Me, this has been our life's work. This has been what we've been doing ever since we started in the downtown area.” Bowman said.
