Champions of AI predict a productivity leap that will generate wealth and improve living standards. Some techno-optimists go further, suggesting that, along with robots, AI is the technology that will finally free humanity from humdrum labor. Yet worries abound about its impact on livelihoods and its potential to destroy jobs.

Tyson Foods will shutter 4 chicken plants in Arkansas, Indiana, and Missouri as part of its drive to cut costs. The meat giant intends to move production to its more modern facilities, but did not yet announce how many jobs would be affected.

A “major scientific breakthrough decades in the making”: U.S. nuclear fusion researchers announced that they have achieved a net energy gain from a fusion reaction for a second time. The development could be the next step on the way to potentially providing safe and limitless energy.
