Will Pierce: The State of Black America

Racial tensions are a consistency in the story of America, from slavery and the Civil War, to Jim Crow laws and the civil rights movement, to Black Lives Matter today.  It’s a complex story spanning hundreds of years. And there is no one reality that can possibly encompass countless personal experiences.

We’re going to look at a snapshot of Black America today from a few different vantage points in the hopes of better understanding why people have such different views of this critical issue for all Americans.

We talk to Will Pierce, who gives us his perspective of the state of Black America today and how we got here. Will is a political consultant who worked on Senator Bernie Sanders’s campaign and was the executive director for Draft Biden 2016. He’s also worked for Illinois Governor J.B Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

We also talk to Bob Woodson (see video here), a veteran of the civil rights movement; and founder and president of the Woodson Center which focuses on transforming troubled neighborhoods from the inside out. Bob has worked tirelessly on these issues for six decades. We’ll hear what he says about why disparities exist between black and white communities in America.
