WNBA Star Griner’s Russian Detention Extended

WNBA star Brittney Griner’s detention in Russia has been extended through July 2, according to Russian news agency TASS. Griner has been held there since Feb. 17 after Russian authorities say they found vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in her luggage at a Moscow airport. Griner’s case was classified by U.S. authorities as “wrongfully detained” back on May 3—which meant they were attempting to negotiate her release. Meanwhile, the release of Marine veteran Trevor Reed in a prisoner swap the week before gave hope that Griner could be next.
