Tara Carter was in the car with her husband Chris and her young son when all of a sudden he turned the car around.
He stopped the car, then he got out.
“Take the food home and come back and get me,” he told her.
Tara was confused at first, but said okay, getting into the driver’s seat to drive their jeep home.
“I didn’t know what he had seen,” she shared on Facebook.
But then as they turned the car around, Tara could see what Chris was up to, and it just warmed her heart.
“We pull up and Chris takes the push mower from this elderly gentleman,” she wrote. He had approached the elderly man struggling with his lawn mower, and offered to help him finish up the rest of the way.
“I pray that my son learns from this and randomly helps people do things like his father does,” Tara wrote.
The story was then shared on LoveWhatMatters and subsequently shared thousands more times. Many others added in their own stories, of witnessing loved ones sharing kindness, and creating a better world.
“We were driving down the road one evening and we saw two elderly women shoveling their driveway,” wrote Kaitie Boutilier. “My husband pulled the car over and went and finished up for them. Took him a few minutes (would have taken them much longer). It’s free to be kind

April Whited said it reminded her of an encounter she had the other day, where a little boy “held a door open for me and 4 other people.”
“I said thank you so much to him and smile at him. He went straight to his dad and said ‘dad! That nice lady thanked me for holding the door! She was the only one, out of like 5 people!'” And his dad had a fantastic reply:
“His dad said ‘it still pays to be nice son, you might have made that one lady’s day, and she did thank you, people still care.'”
Lisa Kelly agreed; our little ones learn by example. “More is caught than taught! When they see their parents setting a great example like that, it speaks much louder than anything you WILL ever tell them to do!”
And Melissa Zaragoza said her children definitely pick up on what they see.
“I was in Panera a few weeks ago with my 13-year-old to use the restroom and when I got bac i saw my son on his knees drying an elderly woman’s shoes with a bunch of napkins.”
“Apparently her husband had accidentally spilled his drink all over her and my son saw and got up from our table and wen to help them,” she wrote.
Nancy Coleman said she experienced something like this herself:
“I’m 70 years old and have several health issues,” she wrote. “I was shoveling snow in my driveway last winter and a young man walked up and took the shovel from me and said, ‘here, let me do that.'”
Coleman didn’t know this young man from anywhere, and learned that he was walked to his home, which was several miles off, because he had just walked to a job interview six miles in the other direction from Coleman’s home.
“I offered to pay him but he wouldn’t accept any money. I thanked him and wished him luck on getting the job, but I never saw him again. He was a real life-saver for me that day.”
