A woman who was punched by a police officer after she drunkenly slapped him in the face at a football game could get the charges against her dropped—if she writes a letter of apology to the officer.
Bridget Freitas, 30, was charged with disorderly conduct and battery on a law enforcement officer after she backhanded Miami-Dade police officer Douglas Ross at a University of Miami football game on Nov. 4.
Ross punched Freitas—who was clearly inebriated—as she was being carried away by four police officers.
The incident was captured in a cellphone video that went on to be widely shared.
A report by Ross’s supervisor cleared him of wrongdoing, saying the officer had acted instinctively and struck Freitas to subdue her.
There was no investigation into Ross’s actions because no one, including Freitas, filed a complaint against him, reported the Miami Herald.

Freitas appeared in court on Monday, Dec. 4 and was told that charges against her would be dropped if she writes Ross a letter of apology, does 50 hours’ community service, and pays $100 to cover the cost of prosecution.
