Investigators have discovered that a woman murdered on May 10 was married to two men at the same time.

Bettie Jenifer was leaving work in Greenbelt, Maryland, when a gunman opened fire in the parking lot. She ran across the lot towards her car before two bullets struck her.

“Once fatally in the head,” said Greenbelt Police Department Spokesperson George Mathews, via ABC7. “This happened in broad daylight, in front of multiple witnesses, right in front of an office complex.”

Witnesses said the gunman was waiting for her, and that when she saw him she started to run, Voice of America reported.

“Somebody wanted her dead,” Mathews told ABC7.

About 10 people witnessed the shooting, the Capital Gazette reported. The killer got away on foot.

Bettie Jenifer got married last October to Ghanian actor Chris Attoh. But ABC7 uncovered that only in April did she begin divorce proceedings for her first husband, drug lord Kedrick Jenifer.

Bettie Jenifer was living with Kedrick Jenifer up until his arrest. He is serving 20 years in prison on drug charges after pleading guilty in 2015.

Attoh was reportedly working on a film in Los Angeles, according to Voice of America. When he heard the news of his wife’s death he flew to Maryland.

“He is grieving and has no comment at this stage,” said Attoh’s management office, via Fox 5 DC.

“Waka Talent Agency is saddened by the death of Bettie Jenifer, who was married to our client, Mr. Chris Attoh. We would like to note that the family has requested to mourn in private and therefore will not be doing any press interviews or commenting on the death,” Attoh’s talent agency told NBC.

“We’re casting a wide net, looking at any and all information that could possibly help us apprehend who did this,” said Greenbelt Police Department liaison George Mathews, via Fox 5 DC.

Hours before her murder, Attoh sent this tweet: “When it comes to relationships, remaining faithful is never an option but a priority. Loyalty is ever.”

Attoh has 41,000 followers on Twitter. He has sent out two tweets since his wife’s death. They do not appear to directly reference his wife’s passing. One of the tweets contains a link to an audio recording where Attoh talks about the music he likes, the other contains life advice: “One, remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Two, never give up work. Work gives …”

Attoh had already deleted all photos of his wife on his Instagram page, according to a report from Within Nigeria that was published a week before Bettie Jenifer’s death.

Reports indicate investigators are looking over Attoh’s social media posts. Ghanians speculated the two had separated, based on Attoh’s social media activity, Voice of America reported.

Attoh also has not added any new posts to his Instagram page. His last post shows him in costume at what looks like an acting gig, one day before his wife’s death.

“[Investigators] are aware of the tweets as well and that’s all part of the investigation,” Mathews told ABC7.

Attoh was married to his first wife, Damilola Adegbite, in 2015, Buzz Ghana reported. They met on the set of TV show “Tinsel.” Adegbite is from Nigeria. They had one child together. They got divorced in 2017.
