Work Requirements May Be in Debt Ceiling Deal, Analyst Says

On Tuesday, President Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy held more discussions to reach a deal to avoid a default on the nation’s debt. McCarthy said a debt deal is possible by the end of the week. Biden cut short his trip to Asia this week to curb the threat of an economic crisis. NTD speaks to Richard Stern, the director of the Grover M. Hermann Center for the Federal Budget at The Heritage Foundation. Stern says work requirements for low-income assistance—a measure pushed by Republicans—are a possible part of the debt agreement. He also gives analysis on a balanced budget amendment, which could prevent this recurring problem in the future.
