Emma Morano’s life spanned three centuries.

Born on November 29, 1899, she lived 117 years before passing on Saturday, April 15..

“I worked in a factory until the age of 65. Then that was that,” she told a reporter at her 117th birthday party. ”I used to sing. I had a beautiful voice.”

Morano was born before there were airplanes. Cars had just been invented. She lived to see the dawn of the space age and the moon landings, and the Mars Rover.

When she was born, television was 40 years in the future and telephones were not common. At her 117th birthday party, she watched video on a smartphone.

She survived two World Wars and saw 90 different governments in Italy.

She was the oldest person on the planet when she passed.
