Yosemite Wildfire Threatens Sequoia Trees

A wildfire is threatening some of the world’s oldest giant sequoia trees in California’s Yosemite National Park. The blaze expanded five-fold over the weekend.

According to fire officials, the Washburn Fire has scorched nearly 1,600 acres of forest in the southern end of Yosemite near Mariposa Grove. It is home to more than 500 mature giant sequoias.
