A young American-Israeli Border Police officer died following a suspected terror stabbing attack in Jerusalem on Monday, Israeli police said.

A second officer was wounded.

Twenty-year-old Sgt. Rose Elisheva Lubin and her colleague were attacked while on standing duty at a police station near the Herod’s Gate entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City.

She was critically injured and rushed to Hadassah-University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

According to The Jerusalem Post, the assailant was shot dead at the location of the arrack by other police officers. Another suspect was arrested at the scene, who police believe had aided the killer.

The assailant was identified as a 16-year-old from Isawiya—a Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem.

Immigrated to Israel in 2021

Ms. Lubin reportedly grew up in Dunwoody, Georgia, with her parents, David and Robin. She lived in Atlanta for a while before leaving the United States to move to Israel in August 2021. In March 2022, she was enlisted for obligatory service in the Border Police.

Israeli police described Ms. Lubin as loved by her colleagues and courageous in her service to her country.

“She was the first to volunteer to every mission in order to protect the country,” Israeli police said in a translated message.

“Her colleagues in the company speak of a brave combatant, professional, ethical, friendly, smiling, and good-natured who wished to help every person,” police added.

They also said they notified members of her family. “The Israeli police will be supportive of the grieving family and will accompany it forever,” it added.

Former U.S. ambassador to Israel David Friedman shared a clip on social media that featured a radiant Ms. Lubin and her cousin Dovi Halpern sharing Shabbat greetings.

“This beautiful young woman, Elisheva Rose Ida Lubin, is an American citizen who immigrated to Israel in 2021 and became a ‘lone soldier’ and member of the border police. She was murdered today in cold blood by a Palestinian terrorist,” the former ambassador wrote.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp confirmed Ms. Lubin’s death and shared his condolences to the Lubin family.

“Marty, the girls and I are heartbroken by the tragic news of Rose Lubin’s death,” Mr. Kemp wrote.

“Her courage and commitment to fighting evil is an inspiration to us all, and we will continue to keep her family and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers during their difficult time,” he said.

“While the horrors of war may seem far away, moments like these remind us why it is paramount to stand alongside our friends in Israel as they fight against terror in their land.”

Israeli-Palestinian tensions remain high in the region and across the world as Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza crossed the one-month mark on Tuesday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stood firm on Tuesday on his claim that Israel would only agree to a cease-fire if Hamas released all of its hostages. Hamas, on the other hand, said they will only release the hostages if Israel stops its assault on Gaza.

Hamas currently holds more than 200 hostages, which include people from various nationalities, including at least 10 U.S. citizens.
