Zahawi Rejects Call For English Smacking Ban

The Education Secretary rejected a call from the Children’s Commissioner for England for a ban on smacking children. He says the state should not be “nannying” parents about the way they bring up their children. It comes following a recent law change in Wales, where it is now illegal to physically chastise a child. The smacking ban became law in Scotland in November 2020.
