There was a huge shake-up in Ukraine’s military yesterday, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy replacing the country’s military chief—whom many Ukrainians see as a national hero.
This comes after months of speculation about a rift between Mr. Zelenskyy and General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi. The announcement marks the biggest clash in Ukraine’s military since the start of the war.
Replacing Gen. Zaluzhnyi is seen as a huge gamble. It comes at a time when Russian forces are gaining the upper hand—nearly two years into a bitter war.
