The Dallas Cowboys have signed edge rusher Von Miller.
"Hereee Weee Gooo,” he wrote Sunday under a photoshop of him in a Cowboys helmet and jersey, tagging the team in his post.
It is also a homecoming for Miller, a native of DeSoto, Texas, roughly 15 miles south of Dallas. He played college football at Texas A&M, where he studied poultry science; he owns a chicken company—Greener Pastures—based in the area.
Injuries Derailed Earlier Campaigns
Injuries derailed his 2013 campaign, but the Broncos appeared in Super Bowl XLVIII, losing to the Seattle Seahawks 43-8. He returned in 2014, posting 14 sacks and 59 tackles. He had just 11 sacks and 35 tackles in 2015 but went on a tear in the playoffs that year. He had 2.5 sacks in the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots. In Super Bowl 50 against the Carolina Panthers, he totaled 2.5 sacks—including 2 strip sacks of 2011 first overall pick Cam Newton—along with six tackles and a batted pass; his performance earned him Super Bowl MVP honors.
He posted double-digit sack totals in each of the next three seasons: 13.5 in 2016, 10 in 2017, and 14.5 in 2018. He had just 8 sacks in 2019. A freak lower leg injury cost him the entire 2020 season.
In 2021, he racked up 4.5 sacks in 7 games for the Broncos before he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams. He put up another 5 sacks in Los Angeles and was part of the team that won Super Bowl LVI.
He spent the next three seasons with the Buffalo Bills, but injuries derailed both his 2022 and 2023 seasons. He put up eight sacks in 11 games in 2022; he did not get a single sack in 2023. He put up six sacks in 2024.
He signed with the Washington Commanders in 2025. Despite only starting three games and playing 420 snaps, he led the team in sacks with nine.
Miller currently leads all active players in the NFL in sacks with 138.5; he and Ware are tied for the ninth-most in NFL history. He joins a Cowboys rushing unit in need of an elder statesman after trading away Micah Parsons. The Cowboys are headlined by free agent signee Rashan Gary; 2025 second-round pick Donovan Eziuraku; and 2026 first-round pick Malachi Lawrence.
Fifth-year pro James Houston and former Cowboys draftees Sam Williams, Tyrus Wheat, and Marist Liufau, and 2025 free agent signee Isaiah Land round out the depth chart.
