The Ohio State Highway Patrol has identified the victims in the deadly Ohio State Fair accident that took place Wednesday night.
Tyler Jarrell, 18, of Columbus, was identified as the lone fatality during the accident at the fair, police told NBC 4.
Seven other people were injured in the incident and were taken to nearby hospitals. They include Tamika Dunlap, 36, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; Russell Franks, 42, of Columbus, Ohio; Keziah Lewis, 19, of Columbus, Ohio; Jacob Andrews, 22, of Pataskala, Ohio; Jennifer Lambert, 18, of Columbus, Ohio; Abdihakim Hussein, 19, of Columbus, Ohio; and a 14-year-old male whose name was not released.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich said he’s ordered an investigation into the accident, ordering all rides closed until more safety inspections are complete.
“We will get to the bottom of this,” Kasich said, NBC News reported. “I am terribly saddened by this accident, by the loss of life and that people were injured enjoying Ohio’s fair,” Kasich said.
Julian Bellinger, a witness, told ABC News: “The people that were working it had pressed the emergency brake. And in the video you see it go up, and when it came back down, a piece had fell.”
The ride that malfunctioned, called the Fire Ball, swings down like a pendulum in a circular formation.
