Actor Richard Gere was reportedly hospitalized overnight on Feb. 18, after he fell ill with pneumonia, whilst on vacation with his family in Mexico.

The 73-year-old was on vacation with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their children near Nuevo Vallarta to celebrate his wife’s 40th birthday, as reported by TMZ.

The outlet reported that the actor was suffering from a bad cough, which worsened after he left for Mexico.

Gere checked himself into a hospital where doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia. He spent the night at the hospital before being discharged the following day and prescribed antibiotics.

The location of Gere’s hospitalization is currently unknown, but the actor is said to be recovering and in improving condition, as per TMZ.

No further comment was provided.

According to a social media post from his wife, the whole family had been ill for 3 weeks.

“Thank you all for the birthday wishes… after almost 3 weeks of everyone being sick in our family today finally I feel much better! Thank you for all the love, I give it all back to you #happybirthday #happy40,” she wrote in the caption, adding a red heart emoji.

The ‘Pretty Woman’ star and Golden Globe Award winner married Silva in 2018. The couple has two sons, 4-year-old Alexander and another son who is nearly 3 years old.

A photo of Alejandra was uploaded to social media, showing her holding hands with Alexander as they were walking on a beach, her youngest walking ahead of them towards the waves.

On Feb. 18, Silva shared another photo depicting her and Gere, who was wearing a mask. The photo, also taken on a beach, showed the couple from behind as they were walking hand-in-hand with their youngest. The caption underneath the photo reads ‘Beach Day.’

Gere also has another son, 23-year-old Homer James, from a previous marriage with Carey Lowell.

The actor starred in the recently released 2023 romantic comedy “Maybe I do,” alongside Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, and Emma Roberts.
