An AMBER Alert was issued Monday evening for a 4-year-old Los Angeles girl believed to have been abducted by her father after the child’s mother was reportedly found dead inside a South Los Angeles-area home.

The California Highway Patrol activated the alert on behalf of the Los Angeles Police Department as authorities intensified a search spanning Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Diego counties.
Officials identified the missing child as Daleza Fregoso, 4, who was last seen at approximately 4 a.m. on May 24 near Alsace Avenue and Ferndale Street in Los Angeles, according to information released through the CHP and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

Authorities allege the child was abducted by Ruben Fregoso, 40, who is considered the suspect in the case.

In a social media update posted Monday, the CHP said investigators had located the vehicle connected to the case but that both the suspect and child remained missing.

“UPDATE THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN LOCATED. SUSPECT AND VICTIM STILL MISSING,” the agency wrote in its public alert.

Prior to the vehicle recovery, investigators believed the pair may have been traveling in a white 2019 Land Rover Discovery bearing California license plate number 9DAW715.

According to the CHP’s alert, Daleza has black hair and brown eyes, stands approximately 3 feet tall, and weighs about 45 pounds. Ruben Fregoso is described as approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

NBC4 Los Angeles reported that investigators are also treating the case as a homicide investigation. NBC4 Investigates confirmed through two sources that a body discovered inside a West Adams home was the mother of the missing child. The outlet further reported that the child’s father is considered the suspect in both the alleged abduction and the homicide investigation.

Authorities have not publicly released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children said the AMBER Alert remained active as of Monday night. The organization also noted that updated information had been issued regarding law enforcement contact information and the spelling of the family’s last name.

Anyone who sees Daleza or Ruben Fregoso, or who has information regarding their whereabouts, is urged to contact law enforcement immediately by calling 911.
