A 55-year-old American woman who vanished during a shore excursion in the Caribbean on Nov. 20 has been located, police have announced.

Ann Evans went missing after leaving the Rotterdam, a Holland America cruise ship, during an organized island tour in Port St. Maarten. She had gotten off the tour bus in Marigot, located on the French side of the island, and never returned to rejoin the group or make it back to the ship. Within days of her being reported missing, law enforcement on both the Dutch and French sides of the divided island launched an investigation to find her.

The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) said in an update on the case on a Nov. 28 post on Facebook that Evans, the "missing person [had been] located".

"Following coordination between KPSM and other partners, contact has been made with the individual in question," the post said. “In accordance with the laws governing privacy and the protection of personal data, no additional information will be released about the individual or their circumstances.”

The day before her discovery, KPSM released an update revealing they had made significant progress. Investigators discovered that a woman matching Evans' description had checked into a hotel on the French side of the island using her passport and had been seen in the area. The discovery suggested Evans was alive and potentially safe, though her whereabouts remained unclear at that time.
Holland America, the cruise line operating the Rotterdam, said the company had cooperated with authorities throughout the search. "The company notified local authorities immediately and we are working closely with them to confirm the guest's whereabouts," a spokesperson told NTD News, as reported Nov. 26.

The Rotterdam set sail on Nov. 16 from Fort Lauderdale for a 12-day Caribbean voyage.

Police thanked the community and their partners for their assistance during the investigation. Authorities reminded the public that sharing unverified information or images during active cases can interfere with investigations and encouraged anyone with information about missing persons to contact authorities through proper channels.
