Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert announced his engagement to singer Madison Beer on Tuesday.
"[M]eet my fiancé," Beer captioned the post of the pair embracing, with Beer showing off her engagement ring.
Herbert answered several questions from reporters about it at a press conference at Chargers training camp Wednesday.
"The proposal, for sure," he said when asked if he was more nervous for the proposal or his first NFL start.
He was later asked about the timing of the proposal, and how much thought he put into the decision to do it now, rather than during the season or at some later date.
"I thought about it a lot," he said.
He joked with a reporter that he had much less time to prepare for the moment than for his first start, less than 90 seconds.
At his press conference Wednesday, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said that Herbert disclosed his intention to propose to the pop star during a meeting in the quarterback room during spring practices.
"Just awesome," he said. " [I] feel great for him, and it's awesome."
He pointed out that the Super Bowl will be hosted at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood—the Chargers' home stadium—on Feb. 14, Valentine's Day.
"You just, little hairs on your arm start staying up, you know," he said, referring to the possibility of the Chargers playing in a Super Bowl in front of their home crowd.
The couple met in 2025. They were first spotted in August, when Us Weekly obtained photos of the two on the set of a music video Beer was shooting. The pair were spotted kissing on the sideline of the Chargers' Oct. 5 matchup against the Washington Commanders. They appeared multiple times at other sports games and wrote heartfelt messages to each other on their birthdays. Herbert appeared in the music video for Beer's song "lovergirl," which debuted in May.
Harbaugh told Kay Adams on the "Up and Adams Show" Wednesday that he has been a longtime supporter of their relationship.
"Just the way he lights up when he talks about her...from the first time," he said, as B-roll footage showed Herbert and Beer walking off the field with their arms around each other. "And then Madison, when she started coming around, everybody raved about what a nice person she is."
In April, as she was about to embark on her "Locket" tour in Europe, Herbert said he intended to follow her. Harbaugh responded at the time, "Do you need a ride to the airport?" He followed up by asking if he was planning to propose anytime soon, which prompted him to disclose his plans in the QB room. He, his coaches, and the other QBs gave him high-fives and told him to "pull it down."
