Jim Trusty, former federal prosecutor and former assistant U.S. attorney, discussed with NTD's Iris Tao, the constitutional question of birthright citizenship before the U.S. Supreme Court, the intent and the meaning of the 14th Amendment's language of "subject to the jurisdiction thereof," and how it has been interpreted to mean automatic birthright citizenship granted to children of non-citizens.
Trusty also discussed how birthright citizenship has been abused by foreign nationals whose governments are hostile to the United States, like China, and mechanisms in the law to close loopholes. He also discussed the currently heightened risk of Iranian-linked terrorist activities in the United States, due, in part, to the funding lapse for the Department of Homeland Security.
