Germany convicts Syrian migrant of ISIS membership, planned plot

Shaas al-Mohammad, 20, was sentenced to five years in prison for joining ISIS and planning a terror attack.

Al-Mohammad apparently surveyed possible targets in Germany. The prosecution claimed he had researched sites in Berlin, including Alexanderplatz, the Parliament building, and the Brandenburg Gate.

He then sent information back to Syria so ISIS could plan attacks.

Al-Mohammad joined ISIS in Syria as a teenager.

He only got five years because he was sentenced as a youth.

“The focus of this trial were offenses in Syria but also particularly offenses here in Germany,” said federal prosecutor Gerwin Moldenhauer.
