On Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day (April 23), survivors open their doors to share their memories with the next generation.

Zwi Nigal, 94, is part of the project, Memories in the Living Room. He shared his personal experience during the World War II genocide of six million Jews to a few dozen people. The project was carried out nationwide, with similar experience-sharing gathering in 13,000 other homes.

After the event, people went over to Nigal instead of the door, they wanted to hear more of his stories.

As an important part of the remembrance, a two-minute siren swept through downtown Jerusalem and Israel. Pedestrians were at a stand still and cars stopped on the streets, many were seen bowing their heads to to commemorate the Holocaust victims.
